Adaptations of Russian classics are screened in Venezuela

The Crime and Punishment movie, based on the novel of the same name by Fyodor Dostoevsky by Soviet director Lev Kulidzhanov, opened a cycle of screenings of Russian classics on the Venezuelan state TV channel VTVCanal8. Every Saturday for a month viewers will be able to watch legendary Soviet films with Spanish subtitles, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports.

The program also included masterpieces of Russian cinema based on the works of Ivan Turgenev ("First Love") and Alexander Ostrovsky ("Cruel Romance" and "The Marriage of Balzaminov"). The program will end on December 19 with another film adaptation of Dostoevsky, Venezuelan viewers will see a film based on the story "Uncle's Dream".

Russian classics are actively put to screen in Russia and abroad. Works of Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky are most popular choice for adaptations. "The Crime and Punishment" was filmed in the author's homeland and in other countries 14 times.
