The Catholic magazine La Civilta Cattolica is now published in Russian, TASS reports. The release of the first Russian-language issue was timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the meeting between Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Pope Francis.

Padre Antonio Spadaro, who heads the magazine, is sure that the significance of this event cannot be overestimated. The meeting of the heads of the two largest confessions became an additional incentive for further rapprochement. According to him, the magazine in Russian represents another step on this path.

Antonio Spadaro is sure that the fact of the meeting between the Patriarch and the Pope is an important symbol for the whole world, a symbol of unity and reconciliation. He believes that it was prompted by "dialogue and the desire to respond to the challenge of history."

The first edition of La Civilta Cattolica was published in the middle of the 19th century. 170 years later, it has become a versatile and multilingual project. Articles will be translated into Russian from different languages in which articles are written for publication, and articles in Russian will be translated for foreign-language press.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church arrived in Cuba during a pastoral visit to Latin American countries in early February 2016. In Havana, he met Pope Francis. The meeting of the heads of the two churches was called historic. It resulted in the signing of a joint declaration covering the main issues of world politics and problems of universal human values.
