Charter flights between Russia and Egypt may resume, TASS reports. Airplanes can start flights to the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, which were very popular with Russian tourists.

The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation explained that Moscow and Cairo had reached an agreement in principle on this issue. The exact date for the restoration of charter flights has not yet been determined, but this may happen as early as next month.

So far, other departments, neither from the Russian nor from the Egyptian side, have been able to confirm this information. The Russian Embassy in Egypt knows nothing about this either.

The day before, the head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Ashraf Nuweir, said that from March 28, the aircraft will fly to Sinai twice a week, and twice to Hurghada.

A group of Russian specialists completed their work half a month ago in Egypt. They once again checked the security of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh airports, as well as the infrastructure of the Red Sea resorts. The inspection was the first since January 2020.

The air traffic was interrupted in 2015, after the largest plane crash in the history of Russian and Soviet aviation. 224 people became victims of the tragedy. No one managed to survive. After the incident, the flights of Russian aircraft to Egypt were suspended, they have not been restored until now. The International Technical Commission, investigating the causes of the disaster, concluded that a bomb had been planted in the tail section of the liner, and qualified the incident as a terrorist attack.
