Russian representatives in the UN drew the attention of the world community to the systematic violations of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine and the Baltic states, the extermination of dissent and pressure on the media that criticized the authorities. Russia called on Western countries to stop politicizing the issue of human rights, TASS reports.

The statements were made at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The representative of the Russian delegation Dmitry Vorobyov talked about the double standards used by Western countries in the field of rights and freedoms.

In some cases, far-fetched accusations serve as a pretext for interfering in the affairs of other countries, with regard to other states, flagrant violations are ignored. These, according to the Russian diplomat, include Ukraine and the Baltic countries, in which national minorities are being openly expelled from various spheres of public life, bans on their native language are being introduced, the media and dissent are persecuted.

Russia made an appeal to Western countries to leave the politicization of human rights issues in the past and to take steps to build a mutually respectful dialogue with other states.
