The residents of the peninsula began to celebrate the anniversary of the return of Crimea to Russia on Tuesday, March 16, RIA Novosti reports.

Seven years ago, on March 16, 2014, a referendum was held in which the Crimeans chose the future of the peninsula. Two options were proposed for voting - the first assumed the reunification of Crimea with Russia as a subject, and the second option left Crimea as part of Ukraine, but endowed it with a special status. More than 95% of those who voted chose to join Russia.

Major celebrations in honor of the historic event are scheduled for March 16 and 18. The beginning of the work of exhibitions of photographs is timed to coincide with it. There will also be a solemn meeting. The anniversary of the entry of Crimea into Russia will be celebrated under the "Crimean Spring - Seven Years at Home" slogan.

The residents of Simferopol will be presented with a street photo exhibition "7 Wonders of the Crimean Spring". Another photo exhibition will take place in the building of the parliament of the Republic of Crimea.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, authorized the holding of mass events in the republic, timed to coincide with the celebration of the 7th anniversary of the reunification of the peninsula with Russia. The corresponding changes have been made to the decree on the high alert mode introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He also gave permission for festive motorcycle and auto rallies, a ceremonial review of the youth detachments and cadet classes, outdoor sports events, meetings and conferences, but taking into account the observance of sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

The agreement on the acceptance of Crimea into Russia was signed on March 18, 2014. In honor of this event, the Day of Reunification with Russia is annually celebrated on the territory of Crimea.
