Monument to Pushkin opened in Hanoi

Monument to Alexander Pushkin adorned the capital of Vietnam, RIA Novosti reports. The opening ceremony of the monument took place on Wednesday, March 17. Nikolai Patrushev became one of its participants. The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation is in Vietnam on a visit.

A two-meter high bronze sculpture of the great Russian poet was installed in Hoa Binh Park. Visitors to the park will see Pushkin in full growth, the poet reads from the sight. The monument was created by the Russian sculptor Nikolai Kuznetsov-Muromsky.

The monument was donated to Vietnam by the Writers' Union of Russia. The initiator of the action was the Russian Embassy. It was timed to coincide with the 220th anniversary of the birth of Pushkin.

Nikolai Patrushev recalled that Pushkin's lines are well known all over the world. The poet's works are also known in Vietnam, they were translated into Vietnamese about 100 years ago.

The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation expressed confidence that the appearance of the monument in Hanoi will give an opportunity for even more residents and guests of the city to touch the work of Pushkin. This will strengthen the friendship between the peoples of the two countries, he does not doubt.

Nikolai Patrushev brought with him a batch of Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection. Moscow donated it to Vietnam free of charge.
