Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev won the main prize of the tournament in Marseille and moved up to the 2nd place in the ranking of the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP). Before the competition in France, the Russian was the 3rd racket in the world, TASS reports.

Daniil Medvedev was the highest rated participant in the ATP tournament in Marseille, and he did not miss the opportunity to score points. In the final, the Russian defeated the Frenchman Pierre-South Herbert in three sets and won the title, which became his first for the current season. Medvedev recently lost in the Australian Open final.

The victory in Marseille became the 10th in his career at the ATP tournaments for the 25-year-old Russian. This success allowed Medvedev to rise to the 2nd line of the association's rating for the first time. Previously, only two Russians managed to do this - Evgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin. Moreover, the Russians have not reached the top 2 for almost 20 years.

At the moment, the top ten tennis players in the world, according to the ATP, include two Russians - Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev, who is in 8th place.
