Relations between Moscow and Washington are under the threat of collapse, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to the Russian embassy, they are threatened by some statements from overseas leaders, RIA Novosti reports.

After another expansion of the round of anti-Russian sanctions, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Anatoly Antonov, the head of Russia's foreign policy mission to the United States, for consultation.

The ministry noted that the dialogue between the two countries has reached an impasse. The key point in the consultation will be to try to find ways out of it.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also promised that it would try to prevent "irreversible degradation" of relations. But this requires Washington to understand how great the risks are.

Departure to Moscow Anatoly Antonov is scheduled for March 20.

The situation that has developed today turned out to be a natural result of the actions of the American authorities, the embassy noted. Over the past several years, the United States has purposefully led bilateral cooperation to a dead end.

At the same time, one cannot fail to understand that this course is contrary to the interests of both countries. Russia is in favor of establishing a dialogue with the United States.

Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova, commenting on Anatoly Antonov's invitation to consultations in Moscow, said that she would not recall such a situation.

Earlier, Washington once again accused Moscow of allegedly interfering in the election of the American president. The Russian embassy called the accusations groundless.
