The facts of persecution of the Russian media and the obstacles that are set in their work testify to the obscurantism in which the countries of the European Union find themselves. This statement was made by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova, RIA Novosti reports.

Back in February, it became known that a German bank decided to close the accounts of RT in Germany and the Ruptly video agency, the media would lose the opportunity to carry out financial transactions from May 31.

The department noted that similar facts of harassment of Russian media are recorded not only in Germany, but also in other EU countries. Maria Zakharova noted that both Russian-language media and specific journalists are persecuted.

According to the representative of the Foreign Ministry, behind the actions of German banks are the country's authorities, which are forcing financial structures to stop cooperation with the Russian media. Maria Zakharova stressed that this can be confirmed by the massive refusal of German banks to work with the Russian media without explaining the reasons.

The Foreign Ministry said that Russia will take countermeasures if the facts of undisguised pressure on the media in Germany do not stop. The Russian diplomatic service will appeal to international organizations in connection with what is happening.
