Historical Museum to digitize five million exhibits by 2025

The State Historical Museum plans to digitize about five million exhibits from its collection by 2025 and make the materials avialable online. These intentions were announced at a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the State Historical Museum, according to the website of the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

The director of the State Historical Museum, Alexei Levykin, said that about 1,5 million of the museum's exhibits are already uploaded online, this year it is planned to digitize 500 storage units. The head of the museum noted that the pandemic has proven the relevance of electronic resources and online programs of the State Historical Museum. 13 million people used them last year.

The State Historical Museum was founded on February 9, 1872. The anniversary celebration program will include many events, including exhibitions of pieces from the collection of the State Historical Museum and other museums in Russia and the world.

The restoration of the main building of the museum and the modernization of the permanent exhibition are timed to coincide with the anniversary. The participants of the meeting noted that during the work the State Historical Museum is obliged to continue receiving visitors, since it is one of the most important museums in Russia.
