Russia’s children’s rights commissioner Anna Kuznetsova announced that all the Russian children were returned home from prisons in Iraq. Activities to locate the whereabouts of Russian children in Iraq and Syria started almost 4 years ago, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the press service of the commissioner, during this time, 274 children were returned to Russia from the Middle East war zones: 122 from Iraq and 152 from Syria. According to Anna Kuznetsova, there is currently no evidence that Russian children may be in Iraqi prisons.

Last year, several groups of Russian children were evacuated from Syria. Before the New Year, an aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Defense took out a group of 19 children. Young Russians, who had previously fled their homeland with their parents involved in terrorist activities, lived in Syrian refugee camps that were outside the control of state authorities.
