The Orthodox divine service took place for the 1st time in almost 1,000 years on the site of the first church built in honor of St. Clement of Rome in the ancient capital of Norway, Nidaros, - now the city is called Trondheim. The service and the procession were held as part of the celebration of Orthodoxy Week by the arrival of the Holy Princess Anna of Novgorod, the website of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) reports.

The Divine Liturgy, served on the site of the temple by the rector of the Russian Orthodox Church parish in Trondheim, Alexander Volokhan, has already been called a historical event. There have been no Orthodox services in this area for almost 1,000 years.

The mentioned temple was the tomb of the relics of the "eternal king of Norway" St. Olaf of Norway. In the 15th century, the building fell into decay and virtually ceased to exist for several hundred years. Archaeological excavations were carried out there five years ago.

During the liturgy, the relics of the king were returned to the throne, preserved from the Middle Ages, at the end of the service the rite of the Triumph of Orthodoxy was performed, the clergymen offered prayers for all "for the Orthodox faith who have struggled." There was also a religious procession.

The Orthodox church in honor of King Olaf was opened in 2014 in the Norwegian town of Stiklestad. The saint lived before the division of the Christian church into Eastern and Western, and, according to Orthodox priests, his image reminds people of the ancient faith of a united Europe.
