Scientists from Russia, Belarus, Germany and Poland took part in the 20th scientific conference "Belarus and Germany: history and modernity", timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The conference was held online, according to the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.

The international conference was initiated by the Minsk State Linguistic University. Initially, it was meant for the meeting of Belarusian and German historians, but later it became a platform for discussing historical and pressing issues of scientists from the former republics of the USSR and European countries.

The 20th conference was attended by specialists from leading universities and historical museums of these countries. Russia was represented by employees of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Deputy Director of the Institute Julia Kantor noted that historians from different countries have different views on the events of World War II and often argue with each other, but agree that history should not be dependent on politics.
