Children and adolescents from 9 countries took part in chess tournament

The 5th To the Stars regional chess tournament, timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight into space, brought together participants from nine countries in Africa and the Middle East. The competitions were held online, according to the Youth Wing of the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in Egypt on Facebook.

72 chess players aged from 9 to 17 from Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Cameroon, Lebanon, South Africa, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia came together in the battles. The winners were determined in two age categories, each of the players took part in nine rounds.

A tournament dedicated to the 76th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will open on May 2. The organizer was the Coordination Council of the organizations of Russian compatriots in Ireland.

Everyone, adults and children, can join the tournament. Applications are accepted until April 19. The organizers are holding a tournament fundraiser, which will be directed to support three veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
