A scientific project to study the features of the oral Russian language, launched at the Irkutsk State University (ISU), brought together Russian language specialsists from leading universities in Russia, China, Germany and Poland. The purpose of the study is to develop a "new natural grammar of the Russian language" and assess the survival of dialects, according to the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.

The novelty of the project is that earlier grammatical laws and rules were drawn up exclusively on the material of the written language, which differs from the spoken one. For example, words that are considered parasites in writing, in oral speech are signals and convey information about the emotional state of the speaker, the processes in his mind.

According to Marina Tashlykova, director of the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication at ISU, the results of the study of oral speech can change grammatical traditions and contribute to the creation of a "new natural grammar of the Russian language."

As part of the project, Russian language specialists study hundreds of hours of interviews with Russians over the past ten years. According to Marina Tashlykova, interviews recorded in Buryatia will help scientists determine how the local dialect, which is a variety of the national language, is able to withstand the onslaught of civilization. In research, scientists are assisted by computer technology.
