The Gamaleyi Center has completed work on the creation of a mechanism for modernizing the coronavirus vaccine, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Alexander Gintsburg, who heads the scientific institute, the same technology based on adenovirus vectors was used for this. According to the sequence of a spike protein with a changed primary structure, a new sequence is synthesized practically in a day, he explained. By the beginning of the next day, it is already inserted into the used vector, the scientist added. Thus, a genetically engineered construct is ready, which allows it to be used as a vaccine preparation.

Discussion continues today whether all phases of drug testing will be needed in this situation. Alexander Gintsburg explained that there are examples in the world when a drug was tested on a limited sample, in which up to 100 people took part. If with its help the same adequate protective effect against a new strain of the virus is obtained, the mass production of the drug can be started immediately, the scientist explained. He expressed the hope that similar acts will be adopted in Russia in the near future.
