Humanitarian aid from Russia has been delivered to Cuba, TASS reports. It was brought in within the framework of the World Food Program (WFP), operating under the auspices of the United Nations.

The plane landed at the Havana airport, it was met by the Russian Ambassador to Cuba Andrey Guskov, local authorities, as well as the representative of the WFP on the island, Paolo Mattei. There were almost 700 tons of food on board, its cost is about a million dollars. 77,000 people living across the country will receive aid, which includes more than 250 tons of sunflower oil and 430 tons of fortified wheat flour.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission called this assistance another manifestation of friendly ties that have united the peoples of Russia and Cuba for a long time. According to the diplomat, this is especially important for Cubans today, when an unfavorable epidemiological situation is developing. In addition, it is exacerbated by the economic, trade and financial blockades that Washington organized against the Island of Liberty.

Over the past three years, the total amount of WFP donations from Russia to Cuba has reached 11 million dollars. Part of this funding has been allocated to support the school feeding system for the period from 2020 to 2024.
