Seven out of fifteen gold medals were won by Russian schoolchildren at the International Chemistry Olympiad, in which 145 students from 28 countries took part. The Mendeleev Olympiad was held for the 55th time. Competitions among schoolchildren, bearing the name of the outstanding Russian chemist, have been held since 1967, TASS reports.

The Russian team showed the best result at the Olympiad, the 2nd result was among the Romanian schoolchildren. Students from Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Ukraine also received one gold award.

Russian gold awards will go to the Vologda, Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk and Moscow regions, as well as to Moscow and Mordovia. The absolute winner of the Olympiad was a participant from Romania Raul-Mircea Bodrogyan, who was awarded a prize of 5,000 dollars.

The Mendeleev Olympiad brings together the best chemistry experts from among high school students. The national teams of their countries, as a rule, include the winners of the national Olympiads.
