Beijing has pledged to support Moscow amid Western sanctions, Radio Sputnik reported. According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, the leaderships of the two states will demonstrate political understanding. He assured that both countries will continue to provide assistance and support to each other in the field of "protecting state sovereignty, security and development interests."
The principle of unilateral sanctions or the threat of their use is inconsistent with China's foreign policy, the Chinese diplomat said.
The American president had previously told Congress that new anti-Russian sanctions were being introduced allegedly because of an “extraordinary threat” to national security emanating from Moscow. Joe Biden banned American financial institutions from purchasing debt securities from the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, as well as from the National Wealth Fund.
Washington imposed restrictions on six Russian technology companies. Overseas, they were accused of supporting cyberattacks against the United States, which are allegedly carried out by Russian special services. Also, the American authorities accused the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service of involvement in a "large-scale cyber espionage campaign."
In addition, sanctions were imposed on 32 legal entities and individuals for interfering in the American elections. In addition, the US authorities are expelling 10 Russian diplomats.
