Russia delivered humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

29.04.2021

Russia handed over a shipment of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. It is reported on its Facebook page by the Russian Foreign Ministry. Assistance is provided through the World Food Program (WFP).

The solemn ceremony took place in the city of Hairaton, where more than 600 tons of vegetable oil were delivered by rail. The Russian contribution was handed over to the staff of the WFP office, which is located in Mazar-i-Sharif. The last shipment of Russian humanitarian aid took place on April 22.

Russian diplomats noted that the interaction between Russia and Afghanistan in various spheres is rooted in history.

The head of the consulate general stressed that Moscow and the rest of the international community are doing a lot to establish peace and tranquility in Afghanistan. The head of the WFP office in Mazar-i-Sharif N. Rahmani noted the timeliness of the delivery of the humanitarian cargo and its demand in the country. In the current difficult humanitarian situation, aggravated by the military-political crisis, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as severe weather conditions that caused this year's drought, Russian sunflower oil will be distributed among the poorest segments of the population.
