Thirteen awards won by artistic gymnasts from Russia at the European Championships in Basel, Switzerland, brought the national team to first place in the medal standings. During the competition, Russian athletes climbed to the highest step of the podium five times, TASS reports.

Nikita Nagorny, who showed the best result in individual all-around and floor exercises, David Belyavsky (exercises on the bar), Victoria Listunova (individual all-around) and Angelina Melnikova (exercises on uneven bars) became European Champions.

In addition, the Russians brought from Basel seven silver medals (two on the account of Nagorny) and a bronze medal, by far ahead of their competitors in the overall standings. The British and Swiss teams, ranked second and third, respectively, won only one gold medal each.

A week earlier, Russian athletes proved their superiority at the World Cup in Tashkent. On the last day of the competition, the Averina sisters won three out of four gold awards.
