A delegation from France visited a military memorial cemetery in the village of Rossoshki, Volgograd Region. As part of the group, descendants of the French General De Gaulle and the American veteran of the Second World War, a participant in the landing in Normandy, Charles Norman Shey, who thanked the Soviet soldiers "for saving the world," arrived at the battle sites of the Battle of Stalingrad, RIA Novosti reports.

The veteran is a native American representative. He conducted an Indian ceremony at the cemetery, in which he expressed gratitude to the Soviet soldiers who participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. According to the 97-year-old veteran, their feat will forever remain in the memory of people.

Charles Norman Shay spoke of the importance of preserving historical memory. "Nobody could defeat the German army, but the Russians did it!" - he noted. The delegation members called the Battle of Stalingrad the most significant battle in history and a turning point in World War II.

The visit of the delegation took place within the framework of the Stalingrad-2021 project, organized at the initiative of the Fund for the Development of Russian-French Historical Initiatives with the support of the authorities of the Volgograd Region.
