The Czech authorities are inventing threats to intimidate the population, said ex-President of the country Vaclav Klaus. According to him, "coronavirus hysteria" has led to a general lack of information, and any fakes spread easily under such conditions, RIA Novosti reports. This is how the politician reacted to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the country by the Czech authorities.

Vaclav Klaus also recalled the upcoming parliamentary elections. Now a competition will begin between politicians and journalists for "the most harsh and original statement on this matter," the ex-president said.

The politician has no doubts that if US President Donald Trump won the election in the Czech Republic, no one would have remembered the explosion at the ammunition depot seven years ago. According to him, he did not believe that one day he would have to "knock on the table in powerlessness", listening to the statements of high-ranking Czech politicians.

The authorities realize that it is impossible to constantly frighten the population with the coronavirus, therefore, they are “desperately looking for another fictitious threat” to keep people at bay, explained Vaclav Klaus. He stressed that it is easier to manage frightened people.

The former president of the Czech Republic called on politicians to stop and think first of all about the country, and not about themselves.

Earlier, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Hamacek announced on Saturday that 18 employees of the Russian embassy had to leave the country within 48 hours. The decision was made under the mythical pretext that they were allegedly related to the Russian special services. In addition, it was announced in Prague that it was the Russian special services that were involved in the explosion at Czech military depots in 2014. According to local media reports, the explosion was supposed to interfere with the supply of ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces.

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of 20 Czech diplomats. The Czech Foreign Minister has already stated that the work of the embassy is practically paralyzed. “This is a big blow to the embassy,” he said.
