Joint projects in the tourism and cultural, scientific and educational spheres, which will be included in the program of the Russian-Greek Year of History, were discussed during a meeting by representatives of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) with the Minister of Tourism of Greece Haris Theocharis, the website of the RGS reports.

The National Union of the Russian Hospitality Industry and the Greek National Tourism Organization will sign a document on the development of cooperation in tourism. Russian and Greek historians, archaeologists and other specialists from both countries will work to create an archaeological laboratory dedicated to children.

The participants of the meeting were presented the ''Flame of Chesma. Greek Gambit" project. It is organized by the branch of the RGS in Kostroma. This comprehensive international scientific and educational project is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the victory of the Russian fleet in the Battle of Chesme in 1770 in the Mediterranean Sea. Russia's victory over the Turkish squadron in a historic battle allowed her to become the master of the entire Eastern Mediterranean, forming the so-called Archipelago province in the center of the Aegean Sea. The members of the expedition plan to restore its history. The basis for the expedition was research, which for over a decade has been carried out by members of the Russian Trace Adventure Club and the Kostroma branch of the RGS.

The program of the Russian-Greek Year brings together more than 100 outstanding events. They will be held in both countries, and many of them in the regions. Among other things, feature films and documentaries will be shot, educational expeditions to places of common military glory will be held. They will be complemented by art and documentary exhibitions, the release and translation of books by writers from both countries. Russian and Greek scientists will meet at conferences. Concerts, memorial ceremonies and more are planned.
