International Family Day is celebrated on Saturday, May, 15. It was established at the UN General Assembly in 1993. In Russia, it has been celebrated for almost 30 years. Its main task is to draw public attention to the problems of families and to strengthen family values. On this day, international forums are organized, round-table discussions are held, the participants of which discuss topical issues of the family as one of the key social institutions. Cultural events are also dedicated to Family Day.

The formation of the family developed simultaneously with the development of socio-political formations. The institution of marriage allowed the emergence of stability and reliability in the relationship between a man and a woman. The formal union divided responsibilities between them, depending on the contribution of each to the monogamous relationship. At all times and historical epochs, the main family function has been the birth and upbringing of children, the formation of their civic consciousness.

Unfortunately, the issues of the modern family are becoming more acute. And the deterioration of the demographic situation is turning into a central problem in almost all civilized countries. In some places, the birth rate decreases catastrophically, and the existence of social problems leads to the destruction of intra-family relations.

The Russian authorities are doing a lot to improve the demography and increase the birth rate. In particular, for large and low-income families, benefits are provided for the purchase of housing, for providing a place in preschool institutions. And the maternity capital program allows families to receive a number of advantages in solving vital issues for them.

Much work is aimed at strengthening intra-family ties. The restoration of the authority of the family and stable relations between its members is the basis for the movement forward of all socio-economic phenomena of society.
