A new tourist trail is going to unite Russia and Finland, Yle reports. It will lead through the Saimaa region to St. Petersburg. It is expected that the route will be in demand among European travelers.

According to Mirka Rahman, the representative of the tourism department of the Finnish city of Lappeenranta, these two regions in neighboring states seem to belong to different worlds. A single tour itinerary will offer guests ''completely different cultural experiences''.

The route will include Lappeenranta, Imatra, Mikkeli, Savonlinna, St. Petersburg, and the Leningrad Region.

Tourism officials in both countries hope the restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic will be lifted by the end of the year. Tour offers should be formed by autumn, and go on sale next spring.
