Placido Domingo celebrated his 80th birthday with large-scale Russian season

Famous Spanish singer Placido Domingo concluded large-scale Russian season with a gala concert in St. Petersburg, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports.

During the last Stars of the White Nights festival hsrason held by the Mariinsky Theater, Domingo conducted Saint-Saens opera Samson and Delilah, and also gave a concert of Zarzuela, a genre of musical theater known in Spain since the 17th century.

Placido Domingo also had several performances at the Moscow's Bolshoi Theater as a singer and conductor.

The legendary singer plans to return to Russia in the fall. The premiere of Puccini's opera Tosca is scheduled for October at the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater with Anna Netrebko in the title role. After that, the Bolshoi Theater will host the Operalia competition for young singers.
