Almost 50 projects were included in the competition program of the Realist Web Fest web series festival. It started on Thursday, July 29, and is being held in Nizhny Novgorod. TV shows from Australia, Germany, Italy and other countries will fight for the victory. Russia is represented by almost 20 works. In addition, there will be a competition for the title of the best pilot episode of the new series, TASS reports.

According to the organizers, there are more than 3,000 applications from 70 countries. Last year, due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the festival had to be canceled; therefore, this year forum accepts applications of series released in 2020 as well. The founder of the Realist Web Fest, Anton Kalinkin, has no doubts that web series have already firmly taken their own place in the global film industry.

Web series, unlike a television product, have a special dynamics and form of storytelling. Each episode lasts no more than 15 minutes. They are watched on computers, smartphones and other gadgets.

One of the main events of the festival will be the premiere of the "Survivors" project directed by Andrei Proshkin. It is a series about a deadly virus that has destroyed most of humanity. Producer Boris Khlebnikov noted that this story was conceived long before the pandemic, but life left its mark on the series.

In addition, the participants will have a large-scale business program. It includes a round-table discussion on the development of web series, pitchings and other events.
