Moscow is going to allocate funds to support UNESCO's media projects, RIA Novosti reports. One million dollars will go to the UNESCO International Program for the Development of Communication Trust Fund. They are intended for the implementation of media projects, enhancing the safety of journalists. Another important goal is to counter fake news, including in the news on the coronavirus pandemic.

$250,000 will be allocated over the next four years.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation explained that leading Russian media and journalistic associations will take part in the implementation of specific initiatives.

Russian diplomats recalled that the country was at the origins of the Communication Development Program established by the UNESCO General Conference. This happened more than 40 years ago, in 1980. The program aims to build a fairer and more democratic “new international information order”. Russian diplomats are sure that these goals have not lost their relevance and importance nowadays.
