Athletes from 64 countries participated in the IRONMAN competition in St. Petersburg

2400 participants from 64 countries gathered at the legendary IRONMAN ("Iron Man") competitions held for the first time in Russia, Petersburg. The participants were greeted by Vladimir Putin, TASS reports.

Head of State noted that our country is working hard on promoting sports and healthy lifestyle. According to Putin, only the fastest and strongest athletes can pass all the stages of the competition. IRONMAN was held with the support of  the St. Petersburg mayor's office and Russian Triathlon Federation.

An international team of judges will have to choose best 30 participants who who will receive tickets to the World Championship, which to be held in December 2022 in New Zealand.

IRONMAN is a world famous series that allows participants to test their strength and endurance. Within the framework of the competition, athletes compete in three types of sports - running, swimming and cycling. In each of the disciplines, the participants have to work on considerable distances: athletes swam 1900 meters, cycled over 90 kilometers and ran over 21  kilometers.
