The celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod are held on Saturday, August 21, TASS reports. This year the city turns 800 years old. Russian President Vladimir Putin will come to Nizhny Novgorod for the holiday.

Nizhny Novgorod is one of the most ancient and richest in monuments of history and culture of Russian cities. In the Middle Ages, the Nizhny Novgorod fortress guarded the borders of Russia from the raids of the Tatars. Centuries later, Nizhny Novgorod turned into the capital of fairs of national importance and an industrial center.

The final point will be put by the gala show entitled "New Start". Its central site will be organized on the Nizhnevolzhskaya embankment in the city center.

The organizers devoted a lot of attention to the history of the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), which is inseparable from the history of the city. An exhibition of car models produced by the plant will open for the guests of the holiday.

The grand show will take place in the evening. Most of the stage structures are built on water. According to the director of the show Ilya Averbukh, this will underline the beauty of the Volga and Oka, along the banks of which Nizhny Novgorod is spread.

The famous gymnasts Averinas sisters, famous musician Daniil Trifonov, popular performers of the national stage will appear on the stage.

According to the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin, the restoration of more than 100 cultural objects was completed by the holiday. Also, 1,500 house facades were put in order, hundreds of hectares of public spaces were renovated, 120 kilometers of roads were repaired.
