Monument to Mikhail Lermontov erected in Slovenia

A monument to Mikhail Lermontov has been installed in Kranj (Slovenia), TASS reports. The opening ceremony of the monument took place the day before, October 18. A monument to Slovene poet France Prešeren was also installed in the city.

Russian Ambassador to Slovenia Timur Eyvazov became the honorary guest of the ceremony. The high-ranking diplomat noted the importance of respecting the historical and cultural heritage of the two countries. New cultural and educational projects are needed to achieve it, the ambassador is sure. It is also of great importance to educate the young generation in the spirit of common humanistic values, respect for culture and history.

The holiday was joined by other employees of the Russian diplomatic mission, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Slovenia Danilo Durakovich, Mayor of the city Matyazh Rakovets. At the ceremony, poems by Lermontov and Prešeren were performed by local schoolchildren.
