The World Congress of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad started on Friday, October 15. The forum is going to last two days, TASS reports. About 400 people from more than 100 countries are taking part in it. The executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin is taking part in it.

The forum's agenda includes the discussions of the protection of the rights of compatriots, the promotion of the Russian language, the role of compatriots in the development of interaction between Russian regions and foreign countries, as well as the involvement of younger people in organizations of compatriots.

Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the forum combines two formats - face-to-face and online.

Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted the forum participants. According to him, Russia had always provided and would continue to provide assistance with significant projects in educational,  cultural and social areas. All this invariably ranks among the most important national priorities, Putin assured. The president thanked compatriots abroad for the efforts aimed at promoting the Russian language and Russian culture, preserving Russian traditions and popularizing the rich spiritual heritage.

The first World Congress of Russian Compatriots was held 20 years ago. Now the forum is held every three years, the current one became the 7th in a row.
