The premiere of the "Crime and Punishment" play by Finnish director Johanna Freundlich took place in Veliky Novgorod as part of the Fyodor Dostoevsky International Theater Festival. The production was presented in Russian, Yle.fi reports.

The play was staged in Finland and shown at various venues, including boarding schools and prisons. After the representatives of the Novgorod theater got acquainted with it, the theater was invited to the festival.

The Finnish theater and information center TINFO, which implemented the project, said that the production focused on the young characters of the novel, Rodione and Sonia. Their story can be of interest to modern young people, including those serving sentences.

The Russian-language production of the play based on Dostoevsky's novel has become another joint TINFO project with Russian partners. The organization supports cooperation between theaters of the two countries.
