Russian scientists have begun the third phase of clinical trials of the Sputnik M vaccine for teenagers, RIA Novosti reports. The drug is meant for adolescents aged 12 to 17. In total, 3,000 participants should take part in the stage. Of these, 2,400 children will receive the vaccine, 600 - a placebo.

Moscow's Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova said that the first two phases of research, which began in the summer, will last a year. Preliminary results confirm the safety and efficiency of Sputnik M. In the ''children's" version of  Sputnik V, the concentration of the active substance is reduced by 5-10 times, depending on the age of the children.

Anastasia Rakova added that about 2,000 volunteers already wished to participate in the study. On November 8, doctors began to examine them, more than 200 children have already undergone tests. The first 18 children got their jabs of the vaccine on November, 10.

Participants in the study will describe their condition in an electronic diary, and doctors will monitor their condition.

Children are re-examined on the 28th and 42nd days after the first injection, then after three months and six months.

Teenagers who have not previously suffered from COVID-19 and had no contraindications are invited to participate in the trial.
