Hall of Fame in honor of Russian chess player Anatoly Karpov opened in Argentina

The Hall of Fame in honor of the outstanding Soviet and Russian chess player, world champion Anatoly Karpov has been opened at the headquarters of the International Chess Fund in Argentina, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports. Last summer, Argentina hosted a chess tournament, which was timed to coincide with Karpov's 70th birthday.

According to the head of the Russian House in Buenos Aires, Olga Muratova, chess is very popular in Argentina. Russian and Soviet grandmasters, as well as outstanding chess players from other countries, are known and respected in the country.

Anatoly Karpov became the world champion in 1975. In total, he won over 150 tournaments and was recognized the best chess player of the year in the world nine times.
