"Balamut", directed by Olive Nwosu from Nigeria, has received the Grand Prix of the VGIK International Student Festival, TASS reports.

This year, the festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. Prominent Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky became its first winner back in the day.

Thraditionally, there are two stages of the festival. In October, films by students of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) took part in the screening. The second stage took place in November. Russkiy Mir reported that the festival program included almost 90 films from 48 countries.

The international jury headed by Russian actress Elena Lyadova evaluated the works of the participants.  "Happy" by Russian Ivan Rodin was named the best documentary. The film "Flock", directed by the Canadian Florence Lafond, won in the feature film category. "I am here" by Yulia Orlik from Poland was named the best cartoon. Film directors from Russia, India, Germany, Israel and Bulgaria were awarded special diplomas.
