Sputnik V will be effective against the omicron coronavirus strain, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), is convinced. According to him, it is the Russian vaccine that holds the title of the safest and most effective in the world, RIA Novosti reports.

This is evidenced by the latest research carried out in Hungary. Its results prove that the Russian drug's protection against deadly cases of COVID-19 is 98%. Besides that, only minor side effects were recorded after the application of Sputnik V.

The Russian drug has demonstrated the highest efficiency in comparison with all other COVID-19 vaccines, said Kirill Dmitriev.  If there is a need to adapt the drug to new strains, this will take no more than three months, the head of the RDIF stressed.

The strain COVID-19 B1.1.529, also known as omicron, was first registered in Botswana and South Africa on November 20. The strain was also found in Hong Kong, Great Britain, Germany, Australia and several other countries. A number of countries, including Russia, have imposed restrictions on air traffic with some African states.
