Children who lost their parents during the war in Syria were invited to celebrate the New Year, RIA Novosti reports.

700 kids gathered in the hall of the National Opera House in Damascus. They watched the New Year performance by the Russian actors and the children received gifts from the Moscow government. Moscow also donated several Christmas trees to Damascus. They were installed in the building of the theater, the Russian embassy and the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Children were also invited to take part master classes in Russian folk crafts and different games.

During the visit, the negotiations also took place. The Russian and Syrian sides agreed to develop work in the field of studying Russian as a foreign language and the program of cultural exchanges.
