Russian films in the past year were nominated 28 times for international film awards. Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova called this figures "incredible successes" and said that the department will continue to support the film industry, TASS reports.

The Minister noted that Russian films were recognized at the most significant film forums in the world, including Cannes, Venice and other festivals.

At the same time, Lyubimova admitted, it is not easy for Russian filmmakers to prove to the whole world that there is a national cinema in the country.

In the outgoing year, Kira Kovalenko's "Unclenching his fists" won the main award of one of the sections of the Cannes Film Festival.

The main program of the Venice Festival included "Captain Volkonogov Escaped" by Natasha Merkulova and Alexei Chupov.
