The promotion of the Russian language in Syria became the main topic of round tables held at the University of Damascus. They were organized and conducted by the Moscow government, TASS reports.

Teachers of Russian from different regions of the country joined the discussion. They talked about modern methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The organizers regretted that most of them remain inaccessible to students, since the issue of technical equipment for schools in Syria has not yet been resolved.

Professor Elizaveta Khamraeva, who heads the Preparatory Faculty for Foreigners at Moscow State Pedagogical University, presented her new Russian language textbook, which is designed specifically for Syrians. The Moscow delegation brought to Syria 500 sets of the new textbook, which they donated to the teachers.

The Russian Ministry of Education will develop ways to improve the teaching of the Russian language in Syrian schools after analyzing the situation in the country.
