Participants from almost 100 countries have taken part in the Open Russian Language project. It was started by the Novgorod State University three months ago, 53 Novosti reports.

Free Russian language classes were offered to foreigners. More than 1,100 people took part in the courses. They were most in demand among the inhabitants of Tajikistan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan. The top five also included China and Kyrgyzstan.

The partners of the project are the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the Russian Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, the World Association of Russian University Graduates, and the Russian Language Study Centers.
