A memorial plaque adorned the building of the 1st Russian-Serbian Women's Gymnasium in Kikinda, TASS reports. The installation of the memorial sign was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the educational institution. The solemn ceremony took place the day before, on December 23.

Accorsing to the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo, the women's gymnasium was opened in 1921. The Smolny Institute for Noble Maidens was taken as a model when creating the gymnasium. The initiator was Natalia Erdeli, a graduate of Smolny, actress of the Alexandrinsky Theater in Petrograd. In total, about 200 people studied at the gymnasium, which operated until 1931.

Almost 50,000 emigrants of the first wave settled in Yugoslavia. Among the refugees were the military men, scientists, engineers, and teachers.
