The "Walking the Three Seas" drawing competiton has started accepting applications, the Vsekonkursy website reports. It is timed to the anniversary of Russian merchant Afanasy Nikitin's travels.

In the middle of the 15th century,  Afanasy Nikitin set off for a six-year journey to Persia, India and the Turkish state. He described his impressions of the travel in ''The Journey Beyond Three Seas,'' which became a Russian literary landmark. 550 years have passed since his travels.

The St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, the Institute of Design and Arts and the Department of Monumental Art, the St. Petersburg Center for Humanitarian Programs, the authorities of the Tver Region and the Indian company Shryansy International are the organizers of the competition.

The drawings for the competition may be related not only to the history of Nikitin's journey, but to the development of relations between Russia and India in general. Relations between the two countries go back centuries. The peoples of the two states have a lot in common in the spheres of culture, science, and in many other areas.

The winners will be named in the Painting and Graphics categories. The best works will be presented at exhibitions in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tver, and India.

The drawings are accepted until October 1.
