Russian polar explorers have installed a pointer to the southernmost city of Russia - Derbent, in Antarctica. The pointer appeared at the Vostok station, which is considered the coldest station on the continent.  Derbent is located 13,941 kilometers from this point, TASS reports.

Russian polar explorers who arrived at Vostok for wintering this year received a sign from Derbent Mayor Rustambek Pirmagomedov and Head of the Navigator International Cooperation Fund Stanislav Aristov. The station was opened at the end of 1957 and currently remains the only Russian station operating inside the continent.

Five Russian scientific stations are operating in Antarctica all year round, and five more are only open in summer. Monuments to the outstanding Russian travelers Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev, who discovered the continent, have been erected on the continent.
