Residents of the Central African Republic (CAR) began to study the Russian language, the Federal News Agency reports.

The first classes were held on January, 10. It is planned that the lessons will be held three times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

According to the organizers, students will be able not only to learn the basics, but also to get to know the rich Russian culture better. The course will also help prepare for universities entrance exams, since from the beginning of 2022 the Russian language will become compulsory in higher education institutions of the Central African Republic.

Earlier, the CAR authorities made a decision on compulsory study of the Russian language for students. It will come into effect at the beginning of the next academic year. There is only one state university in the CAR, the Bangui University.

Studying the Russian language at Bangui University will contribute to the development of education and science in the republic, the Minister of Higher Education Jean-Laurent Cissa-Magale is sure.
