President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for carrying out the peacekeeping operation, TASS reports. He met with the Secretary General of the CSTO the day before, January 12. Tokayev noted that the peacekeeping operation is coming to an end. The withdrawal will begin on Thursday, January 13. The whole process will take no more than ten days.

A meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CSTO countries has also been scheduled, where they plan to approve the procedure for the withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from Kazakhstan.

The situation in Kazakhstan, which in the first days of the new year was caught up in riots, is getting back to normal. The troops of the CSTO countries, including Russian ones, served at the strategically important facilities of the country.

To date, a state of emergency and a curfew have been declared in Kazakhstan. It will be valid until January 19. The country has started gradually returning to normal life - public transport, stores, airports and railway stations are resuming its work.
