The Grand Russian Ball took place in Rome last weekend, TASS reports. Guests from Italy, Russia, and other European countries gathered in the Brancaccio Palace. This year, the main theme of the holiday was the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky.

With the help of historical dances and costumes, the organizers resurrected the atmosphere of the 19th century. The pairs circled in quadrille, polonaise and waltz. The audience was shown a short play based on Dostoevsky's story "The Double", with Russian actress Marina Kazankova playing Clara.

The ball became a charitable event, helping o collect funds for the construction of a sports ground for people with disabilities in Ulyanovsk.

The first Grand Russian Ball was held in Rome ten years ago. The organizers are confident that the ball plays an important role in bringing Russia and Europe closer together through culture. The event attracts specialists involved in the restoration of historical dances from Russia, France, Switzerland and other countries.

In 2020, the ball was held under the patronage of the Russkiy Mir Foundation. It was dedicated to the work of Anton Chekhov.
