The Russian language ranks second in the world in terms of the number of websites it is used on. According to this indicator, the Russian language only succumbed to English, but beat Chinese and Spanish, which are spoken by more people on the planet. The 3rd place went to the Turkish language, according to Novye Izvestia.

The Russian language holds the second line by a significant margin. According to the chart, Chinese, which is spoken in the world's most populous country, is only used on less than 1.5 percent of websites. Hindi, which ranks third on the planet in terms of popularity, is also not among the leaders in terms of representation on the Internet.

It is noted that the Russian language was able to gain wide Internet distribution due to the activity of Runet (the Russian segment of the Internet) and a significant number of Russian-speaking users in the world, primarily Russians and immigrants from the former republics of the Soviet Union.
