Russian scientists were the first in the world to decipher ancient Tibetan manuscripts using artificial intelligence. The decryption accuracy is 94 percent. At the initial stage, it was possible to decipher about 500 handwritten pages. Scientists expect that the applied technology will make it possible to translate texts into Russian, TASS reports.

Scientists from the Institute of Mongolian Studies, Buddhology and Tibetology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Novosibirsk State University, as well as specialists from the artificial intelligence center of the MTS company are taking part in the research.

The collection of the RAS contains about 100,000 manuscripts, including medical texts. President of the RAS Alexander Sergeev called the collection of ancient Tibetan manuscripts the largest in the world.

The project participants are convinced that high-quality decoding will allow them to learn a lot about ancient science and the knowledge that distant ancestors possessed. At the second stage, it is planned to make an attempt to read the old Mongolian texts.
